The intention of the client couple was to build a starter home that would help them transition into their growing family, while affording them a sustainable lifestyle. The brief comprised 2 bedrooms, a guest ensuite, study, open kitchen, lounge & dining areas, a study, kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as a single domestic quarters. The resulting intention for the design was to spatially translate this concept of ‘transition’ , as linked to the client’s fluid state of being. The project explored the theme of transition and the significance of the linkage of points along a 'path'. This concept celebrates these transitional spatial occurences within the design - such as the private linear corridor or the curled ribbon concrete circular staircase - as spaces for reflection, visual interaction, retreat or repose.
